Start Your Journey at North Idaho College

Submit your appropriate ACT/SAT scores.  Scores must meet the minimum requirements and have been taken within the last four years.  If your ACT/SAT scores are older than that, or if they do not meet the minimum requirements, then you will be required to complete the NIC placement assessments.

If you have taken equivalent college courses for our MATH and ENGLISH course requirements, you may submit your official college transcripts to us for review.


It is your responsibility to read the instructions thoroughly prior to beginning each assessment


Math Placement Assessment (ALEKS) – The ALEKS math assessment must be proctored, to schedule an appointment at the Testing Center on the Coeur d’Alene campus please visit: https://www2.registerblast.com/nic/Exam/List  Select “ALEKS” in the dropdown menus for requested assessment. 

  • ALEKS can be taken at the Parker Technical Education Center in Rathdrum with the program advisor, appointments are required. Please call (208) 769-3448 to schedule with the advisor.

  • ALEKS can be taken at the NIC Sandpoint Center, appointments are required. Please call (208) 263-4594 to schedule an appointment.

  • ALEKS can be taken virtually for a fee of $5, for instructions on virtual ALEKS please visit this website and read through all the instructions prior to beginning the assessment: https://www.nic.edu/placement/aleks/#d.en.234615

ACT score 16+ (preferred score 20+)

SAT score of 440+ (preferred score 510+)

ALEKS score of 14 (score of 30 is preferred)


English Placement Assessment (The Write Class) – The Write Class can be taken at nic.thewriteclass.org


ACT English score 16-17 (preferred score 18-24)

SAT score of 450-500 (preferred score 510-620)

The Write Class score of English 101P
